Jan. 7, 2010: Last night the Varsity Lady Shamrocks basketball team faced rival Antonian in a premier district matchup. Coming into this game both teams were undefeated in district play and tied for first place. Once again our ladies stood up to the challenge defeating Antonian 48 to 46 in a thrilling game in front of hundreds of fans at the UIW arena. The score of the game went back and forth throughout the contest with our players refusing to quit. Key performances were put in by all team members with each performing their role admirably. The scoring breakdown for the game was as follows: Bianca Garcia 10 points, Kaela Lipo 9 points, Tori Villarreal 8, LeTicia Brown 5, Alex Garza 5, Desi Ramos 5, Kirstin Manka 3, and Luisa Garcia 3. We would like to thank all of the Incarnate Word student body and faculty for their support. We couldn’t have done it without you. Coach Patterson wants all of the ladies to know how proud he is of all of the hard work that has been put into the season to this point. GO SHAMROCKS !!!!

Soccer

Nov. 5, 2009: The new soccer season has officially been kicked off! The Junior Varsity team started it off with a 3-3 tie on November 5 at Antonian. The Varsity Squad began the following day with a solid 4-0 win over St. Anthony and followed it with a 2-1 win against San Antonio Christian on Monday night. The scoring tandem of Erika Migeon and Katie Morell continued right where they left off last season, leading the team in scoring. Both already have 2 goals through two games. The freshmen on Varsity have also made their presence known. Newcomer Regan O’Brien has already tallied 3 assists. The defense boasts a completely different look from last year, but has also performed well allowing only 1 goal. Solid play from goalkeeper Alyssa Mora has helped the new defense pull together.

The next game will be Friday, November 13, in Corpus Christi. The game against Incarnate Word Academy will serve as the final tune up before starting up District play. Please come cheer on the Shamrocks as they take on St. Michael’s on Monday, November 16. JV kicks off at 5 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7 p.m. under the bright lights of Benson Field at UIW.
