Incarnate Word High School has been recognized as a 2001-2002 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. IWHS is the only Catholic School in Texas to receive the honor, and is one of 172 schools recognized nationally.

"This program will energize our community and confirm our confidence in what we are doing," said Sr. Sally Mitchell, Dean of University Preparatory Programs.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was established by the Secretary of Education in 1982. Since its inception 17 years ago, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program has honored 3,982 schools.

Incarnate Word High School, established in 1881 and a division of the University of the Incarnate Word and member of the Brainpower Connection, is a private, Catholic, all-female, college-preparatory school serving day and boarding students in grades 9 through 12.

The school was specifically founded to assist parents in the spiritual formation of their daughters. The intent of the school program is to nourish all dimensions of the student in order to prepare her for responsible and productive Christian living.
