Banking & Money

Bank Accounts

It is important for boarders to have the ability to purchase the items they need for school and personal needs. The Boarding Program has developed a relationship with the local branch of Bank of America and is happy to help arrange for our boarders to set up a bank account into which parents can deposit money. The contact information for the bank is:

Courtney Martinez
Bank of America
Bank Officer
Tel: (210) 283-6105
Fax: (210) 283-6130
Customer Service: 1-800-432-1000

When contacting Ms. Martinez, mention that you are setting the account up for a boarding student at Incarnate Word or St Anthony's Boarding Program and the Boarding Coordinator's name. This will help the bank recognize your needs.

If you prefer to set up a bank account elsewhere, that is fine. Please make sure that there are either bank branches near to the residence hall or that the account can still be accessed easily.

Money Management

The amount of money boarders use per month varies widely among the students. The essential items that boarders need to be able to purchase are:

  • School Books (costs per year can range between $200 - $500 US Dollars)
  • Uniforms and Shoes(approximately $200 - $300 for the initial set of uniform items)
  • School Supplies: notebooks, pens, calculator, etc. - Some classes require extra supplies or have a "lab fee" to cover supply costs

Other items that boarders may want money for are:

  • Extra snack foods, groceries, dinner/snack when on outings to the mall, etc
  • Spending money for trips to the mall/shopping center
  • Movie tickets
  • Money to participate in school spirit activities (homecoming mums, casual dress days, school spirit items such as t-shirts, ribbons, etc.)

How much money you make available is a personal matter, but having some money available for unexpected expenses is suggested.
