Yummmmmmmm!
I must admit that the food itself looks more like fajitas with molded rice and an egg roll, but the taste was actually delicious!
The Sweet and Sour Chicken was scrumptious, loaded with vegetables and a slight hint of tang in the oil. The meat was most likely dark, which allowed it to be soft and tender- definitely melt in your mouth material. The vegetables were also lightly seasoned with oil, but ultimately enhanced the overall taste. Unbelievable! Perhaps the carrot was a bit much, but otherwise the choices were simple and crunchy.
The sweet and sour sauce was true to its name, perhaps a bit on the sweet side, but definitely a great combination with the subtle taste of the chicken.
I personally have a qualm to settle with the rice: it's just not typical of Asian rice. Perhaps it was the puddle of oil that it leaves behind on the plate, or the hard texture of the grains, or even the buttery after taste that it leaves in the mouth, but this rice was definitely not up to par. A nice complement to the chicken, but lacking in authenticity and flavor.
Don't you hate that feeling, right before you bite in to an eggroll: Will it be vegetable or meat? Salty or vegetable-y? Tough or soft? Well, this eggroll left me hanging. Perhaps it did have meat in it, but it was way too salty to tell the difference. The wrap itself was a bit on the crunchy side- so much so that it tended to fall apart. Not my favorite, but not too bad.
The Fortune Cookie was a cute addition. My fortune: You will spend your old age in comfort and material wealth. That's an encouraging fortune at lunchtime, is it not? I hope they were all that nice. It'd be horrible to get a, Look out behind you, a flying egg roll will result in your unconscious state, or better yet, Don't bother to take that test you'll fail it anyway. But, hey, it's the thought that counts, right?
