GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION
What a fantastic voyage you are embarking on in choosing to attend high school at Incarnate Word. It is such an exhilarating time filled with the excitement of meeting new people, heightening your ability to develop your academic potential, and cherishing the life long bonds you establish in the sisterhood at IWHS.

During these experiences you may need some support and assistance to help guide you to a successful transition. The Guidance Office can help. We offer various support services to assist you with your new surroundings, as well as, preparing for life after IWHS. Your guidance counselor can be a great resource! She can help you brainstorm, act as a sounding board, give advice and helpful hints to assist you locate the answers you may need to make your choices, and a myriad of other ways to guide you in your years at Incarnate Word High School. In addition, we offer information and support to your parents and/or guardians to compliment your needs to determine a path that is successful for you!

SERVICES
The Guidance Office provides students with year-round services:

  • Academic Planning
  • Individual, group and crisis counseling
  • Scheduling counseling session with visiting Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Mediation
  • All Teacher Parent Conferences
  • Students’ with learning differences
  • Guidance Office Leadership Programs: Fish Tips Teachers, Mentors, and Ambassadors
  • Tutoring
COLLEGE PREPARATORY CURRICULUM
One of the many reasons students choose to attend IWHS is the college preparatory curriculum. All of the IWHS community is instrumental in helping students in the preparation for selecting a career and a college to attend. The Guidance Office will complement these efforts through a variety of services that include:
  • Guidance Office Curriculum: Fish Tips II (9 th grade), Career Exploration (10 th grade), College Exploration (11 th grade) and College Preparedness (12 th grade)
  • Individual time to work on college applications and understand financial aid and scholarships
  • College Preparation Parent Workshops
  • Events we coordinate: IWHS Career Day, Jesuit Consortium, Private Schools of San Antonio College Fair
  • PSAT and SAT Preparation
  • Computers and typewriters available for college and career searches and filling out applications
