Giving Opportunities
Shamrock Fund

The Shamrock Fund is comprised of voluntary, tax-deductible gifts from parents, alumnae, grandparents, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends of Incarnate Word High School. Tuition covers only a portion of the cost of educating each Incarnate Word girl, leaving a per-student deficit of almost $1,000.
Gifts to the Shamrock Fund help make up that difference between tuition and the actual cost of educating our students.
Tomorrow's women need your support today! Incarnate Word graduates develop into leaders in their chosen careers and communities. They are leaders who give of themselves as a living example of God’s love. Whether you give to support a daughter's future, to sustain a school that develops leaders with faith or to honor your educational legacy, your gift (of any size) makes a difference.
Scholarships
Scholarship endowments are crucial to the financial well-being of Incarnate Word High School, to its plans for the future, and to the daily life of its students. Investing in one of the various endowments is the most effective way to make a change in a school’s long-term financial health.
Below are funds established by generous our donors:
- Sister Loraine Bourisaw, CCVI Scholarship
- Dona Ann Dextraze Scholarship
- Yvette Lopez Scholarship
There are also various annual scholarship funds to which donors may contribute. For more information on endowed or annual scholarships, contact Joyce Horner, Development Director, at 210-832-2143.
Athletics
Incarnate Word High School athletics embodies the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, bringing together and building community among students, alumnae, faculty and staff as well as residents of the surrounding Bexar County area.
Athletic events and the numerous opportunities for students to compete in TAPPS Division 5A sports are an important part of a vibrant campus experience. As the high school looks to the future, IWHS Athletics’ vision is to be among the top 3 in everything it does on the field, in the classroom and beyond. Donor support of existing programs will be critical in meeting that goal.
Campus Ministry
It is the vocation of Incarnate Word to develop a spirit within each student that is life-changing and empowers students to think beyond themselves. It is our mission to encourage all students to examine the moral and ethical challenges that arise from academic learning and to contemplate how they can influence the world on behalf of society’s neediest. It is our obligation to work with students and faculty alike to identify and cultivate opportunities to do so. Donors provide Incarnate Word the opportunity to enrich existing ministry activities through their generosity.
Library
The Incarnate Word Library offers students access to over 90 research data bases, 84 periodical titles, and over 12,000 titles. The cost of keeping updated works of literature and the latest research information available for students increases annually. And whether a donor wishes to participate in the Gift Book Program with a minimum $50 gift toward the permanent collection in honor of someone special or designate their gift to research technologies, he/she will help the library to ensure that today’s Shamrocks will have immediate access to resources that are among the finest in San Antonio.
Technology
With the need for students to harness the intellectual power of technology information and tools, it is incumbent upon Incarnate Word to provide students the opportunity to use technology in all major curriculum areas and help them assimilate technology into their higher level learning experiences. This means not only providing the latest equipment for Shamrocks with which to learn, but also providing students the opportunity to integrate interactive technology that engages them in actual problem-solving and analysis . It is through the generous support of donors we will continue to update equipment and software along with user training for faculty.
Faculty Support
Great preparatory programs start with educators who share and create knowledge that pushes our understanding of the world to new levels. Incarnate Word High School is known for faculty who love to teach as much as they embrace scholarly pursuits and scientific inquiry. Incarnate Word’s strength lies in fusing teaching and spirituality into amazing academic experiences. This balance is unique, but is fundamental to the Incarnate Word mission of academic excellence through a tradition of spirituality, ethics and service. Donors can play a key role in helping to ensure the continued quality of Incarnate Word academics through annual support and the creation of endowments.
Special Projects
Mt. Erin Island Beautification
Whether it is the academic , athletic or leadership bar set by an alumnae or current student, past and current Shamrocks alike pave the way for those who will come after. A wonderful way to honor this path is with a personalized paver for the walkway across the island at Mt. Erin. The island which was transformed into a landscaped retreat area for students by the PTC will be used by generations of Shamrocks to come! Commemorate any important milestone, including academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, special birthday or graduation. You can choose from a rose brick paver or paver block. Click here to download the order form or you may request more information by contacting Joyce Horner, Director of Development at 210-832-2143.
Your Seat in IWHS History
The tradition of the Changing of the Chairs is as much a part of the Shamrock heritage as is the advisory breakfast, the Junior Ring Ceremony and Senior Sign-Out. With the renovation of the gymnasium this summer, you have the opportunity to literally take a seat in IWHS history. The historic folding chairs – the only ones ever used – are being replaced with updated seating and will be made available to alumnae and students for $30. Each chair will include a specially engraved plate with your name and class year.
