FALL SAIW'S FALL THEATRE PRODUCTION:
The SAIW Theatre Company presents their first production of the year, "Greek Stories: From Artemis to Zeus" on Sept. 9, 10, & 11 at 7 p.m. in the McGowen Gym. This is a delightful script portrayed by a cast of 25 actors from Incarnate Word and St. Anthony. Some of the myths presented in the play include: the story of Prometheus, Pandora, Echo, The Judgement of Paris, and King Midas. The material is appropriate for all ages and is a wonderful way to teach young audiences about popular Greek stories.
Tickets will be available at the door and are $6 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children. We hope you will join us for an evening of wonderful comedy and action as the Theatre Company kicks off its 2010-2011 season. COFFEE FOR 10TH & 11TH GRADE PARENTS:
On Tuesday, September 14, from 8:15 - 9:30 a.m., all parents of 10th and 11th grade students are cordially invited to attend a coffee in the Cafeteria Loft. The school administrators, counseling staff, and class sponsors will be present to provide you with information and to answer your questions. Refreshments will be provided by the PTO. Please join us to learn more about your daughter’s education at IWHS.

MEETING FOR PARENTS OF SENIORS:
On September 14, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Mt. Erin Alumnae Hall, a special set of presentations will be given to parents of 12th grade students. During the first part of the program the school’s administrative team and class sponsors will provide updates and information concerning the upcoming school year. During the second part of the program, the guidance counselors will explain the college application timeline, provide tips on how to help your daughter during the admissions process and guide you and your daughter in how to manage stress and maximize opportunities for admission to the college of your choice. Refreshments will be provided by the PTO. Please come and learn more about your daughter’s senior year at IWHS.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE SEPT. 20:
IWHS is proud to offer the Roger J. Labat Scholarship. Students must be in the 11th or 12th grade and be involved in choral, madrigals, or be a daughter of an alumna. The award is for $500.00 applicable for the current school year 2010-11. Deadline is Monday, Sept. 20. Download application.

SHAMROCKS IN THE NEWS:
In "no-holds-barred" competition, the IWHS Shamrock volleyball teams -- Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen -- trounced the Antonian Apaches on September 1 at Antonian. The Shamrock teams out-performed the Apaches in all areas of the game in their second match of District competition. The title of the Sept. 2nd S.A. Express-News article appropriately declares, "Incarnate Word takes charge, sails to victory over Antonian." Read the article in MySA (Sept. 3, 2010).
Shamrock varsity volleyball defeated Steele High School in pre-season competition. Read the article in MySA (Aug. 17, 2010).
Junior Kimberly Vaio was recognized at the Northeast Volleyball Tournament held August 13 and 14. She was named "Top Setter," chosen from the competing public and private school teams. Schools included Churchill, Reagan, Steele, as well as IWHS and Antonian. Kimberly was also selected to the LonestarVolleyball.com 2010 All-Texas Honorable Mention Team. Way to Go Shamrocks!
The San Antonio Express News (Aug. 8, 2010) posted its "2010 Season Preview: H.S. Volleyball," naming seniors Gabbi Otero and Marissa Rodriguez as "Players to watch." And in the "Preseason rankings," IWHS is ranked 4th in the city. See rankings.

NEW FOR "BACK TO SCHOOL":

SCHOOL CLOSURE:
In case of severe weather conditions, announcements concerning school closing will be made on radio station WOAI (1200 AM Radio).
The decision to delay or close IWHS will be made official by the Un. of Incarnate Word Public Relations Office , independent of other public, private, or Catholic schools.
