SOFTBALL COACH:
Gary Etter, IWHS softball coach, was selected Coach of the Year
by the San Antonio Express- News. Coach Etter not only led the team to the TAPPS 5A Softball Championship this year against the state's private schools, but also "posted wins over public school powers Smithson Valley, New Braunfels, Churchill and East Central, among others" (S.A. Express-News, June 9, 2013, B4).

SHAMROCKS IN THE NEWS:
The S.A. Express-News selected senior outfielder Alexis Richardson to its 2013 All-Area Softball Team, including players from area public schools. Featured among 11 players in the June 9th Express-News, Alexis has an impressive record of achievements: TAPPS 1st Team All-State and All-District; batted .365 with a .475 on-base percentage; 41 runs scored, 8 home runs and 46 RBIs. Also, making the private school All-Area Team was junior Bethanie Hernandez who was selected 2nd Team All-State and 1st Team All-District. Way to Shine, Shamrocks!!!

STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITY:
  Twenty IWHS students, along with students from St. Anthony, are participating in the first UIW Prep study abroad/dual credit program. This unique program offered juniors and seniors the opportunity to take a blended course in American Politics and Government and the opportunity to earn three hours of college credit. The culmination of this study is taking place in Heidelberg, Germany, at the European Study Center, which has a partnership with the University of the Incarnate Word and CEPA Europe.
  This new venture promises to offer IWHS students yet another amazing way to grow both academically and personally, maximizing their own potential. Students will be able to sign up for the study abroad course offered in Spring 2014.

ATHLETES SIGN TO PLAY COLLEGIATE SPORTS:
Congratulations to our outstanding athletes who signed letters of intent to play sports in college. Sarah Paller signed with Trinity University to play softball; Lauren Rosales signed with Loyola University in New Orleans to play tennis;
and Brianna Bustamante signed with Our Lady of the Lake University to play women's basketball.

IWHS celebrates the achievements of our 2012 Senior AP Scholars!

IWHS AP Scholars with Distinction (students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams) are Kathryn A. Ault, Madeleine E. Bailey, Sarah M. Brinkman, Jesse D. Eclarinal, Emily K. Grau, Taylor-Ann E. Treviño.
  •  IWHS AP Scholars with Honor are (students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams) are Graciela M. Baez-Chavez, Alissa M. Hinojosa, Emily L. Kuebker, Gillian M. Lynch, Emma M. Stewart, Jade T. Yamamoto, Amanda A. Yamazi, Jenna E. Zaragoza.

Incarnate Word H.S. was recently profiled on KENS5 Great Day SA. Director of Development Annette Zahirniak and enthusiatic Shamrock
s conducted a tour of the campus describing the school environment, traditions, and academics. Watch the video posted on August 8, 2012: "A school steeped in tradition."

SCHOOL CLOSURE:
In case of severe weather conditions, announcements concerning school closing will be made on radio station WOAI (1200 AM Radio). The decision to delay or close IWHS will be made official by the Un. of Incarnate Word Public Relations Office , independent of other public, private, or Catholic schools.
