S.T.R.E.A.M. Program

The IWHS S.T.R.E.A.M. Program is dedicated to guiding inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking of young women by aligning and connecting the contents of  Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, which enhances individual potential and ensures students are well-equipped to meet the challenges in the world around them.

Below is an ongoing list of upcoming S.T.R.E.A.M. opportunities for our students throughout the school year. This list is updated weekly.

  • Aim High Flight Academy Application - Opens July 2024

    The Aim High Flight Academy (AHFA) is an aviation scholarship for a three-week introductory flight program at various universities across the world.   

    The mission of the AHFA is to inform, influence, and inspire the next generation of aviators and leaders. After completion of the AHFA, students will understand the pathways to become an Air Force officer, aviator, and earn up to 15 flight hours. 

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
      • Be at least 16 years old by 1 June 2025
      • Be enrolled in high school or a graduating senior* 
      • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 
      • Have no more than 5 powered flight hours 
    Notes: 
      • No flight or aviation experience necessary (we teach you to fly!)  
      • No commitment or obligation to the Air Force  
    SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS RECEIVE (All items funded by USAF)
      • Up to 15 flight hours 
      • Housing and meals during training 
      • Transportation to/from training location 
      • Classroom training (ground school) 
      • Flight simulator training 
      • All training is provided by FAA Certified Flight Instructors 
      • Access to university recreation facilities 
      • Mentorship from Air Force aviators

  • Summer STEM Camps for High School Young Women in SATX

  • Texas A&M University: Engineering Through Alamo Community Colleges

    Texas A&M University now offers an engineering degree through the Alamo Community Colleges!  Read to learn more about the Engineering Academy program!
    • The Engineering Academy program is the first transition program of its kind in the U.S. Unlike traditional transfer programs, students will be a Texas A&M University College of Engineering student from day one.
    • Students enroll in math, science, and core curriculum courses through the community college and have the unique opportunity to enroll in Texas A&M engineering courses taught by Texas A&M faculty on the community college campus.
    • Students are co-enrolled for one to two years before transitioning to Texas A&M University to complete their bachelor’s degree.
    • Smaller student-faculty ratios in the community college courses.
    • Substantial financial savings!  Academy students are charged tuition and fees by the institution where each course is registered.

  • St. Mary University Summer Tech Camps



    The School of Science, Engineering and Technology Tech Camps include 10, one-week technology camps at St. Mary’s University. The camps are FREE with lunch included and limited to about 18 students per camp. The camps are taught by St. Mary’s professors and students need to be at least in 9th grade in 2024-2025 and 14 years old by June 1, 2024. 
    Campers will learn about various topics, languages and tools within the computer science and engineering fields. Each camp will see various technology laboratories on field trips around the St. Mary’s University campus. Each camp has a student project that can be shown to family on the last afternoon of the camp.  All camps meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an extra hour on Friday to complete showing projects to family and friends. Participants can be dropped off between 8 to 9 a.m. and must be picked up between 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Camps will be from June 10, 2024 through July 26, 2024  For more details information and registration please go to the following link.

  • Summer 2024: megaGEMS AEOP UNITE Research Camp

    Registration for the megaGEMS AEOP UNITE Research Camp for Summer 2024 for rising 9th and 10th-grade female students is OPEN NOW!
     
    What is megaGEMS AEOP UNITE Research Camp program? Unite is a free 4-week summer program that teaches girls how to collaborate and solve problems as a team while conducting hands-on rigorous research in STEM, how to prepare for college, how to network, and much more. Below are more details about the program details and how to apply:
      1. Information about megaGEMS AEOP UNITE Research Camp.
        • Participants: rising 9th grade & 10th grade female (current 8th and 9th grade students for the 2023-2024 school year)
        • Duration: a 4-week program for female students
        • Camp Dates & Time: July 8 - Aug 2, 2024 Monday - Friday 9 am - 4 pm
        • Location: The University of the Incarnate Word
        • Cost: FREE
        • Food: students are responsible for bringing daily lunch (pre-packaged snacks will be provided)
        • Transportation: Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from camp
        • Students receive a stipend at the end of their research to cover food/transportation costs
