Student Activities

The Residential Life staff at IWHS prepares numerous weekend activities, adding team-building retreats, and community gatherings throughout the year for our students to live a complete and fulfilling experience outside of the classroom.

Activities within the Residence Hall:

Throughout the year, our Resident Assistant program events with the girls to give them a break from class and de-stress, while learning productive skills through the event. The residents also get the chance to go out with their Resident Assistant and other ladies to enjoy a day of activities. These activities are planned by the Resident Assistant team leader assigned to each lady and the girls themselves. Residents also enjoy hanging out in the community areas as they socialize with other residents, friends, and family.

Activities within the Community:

  • Community Gatherings: We have taken the girls to: Schlitterbahn, Fiesta Texas, San Marcos Shopping Outlets, San Antonio Spurs Games, College Campus Visits, San Antonio FC Soccer Games, Attending the Asian New Year Festival at the Institute of Texan Cultures, Ice Hockey, Attending concerts and plays produced by the high school and the university, and Aquarium or NASA in Houston, Mission Baseball games.

  • Community Service: Being a requirement for Incarnate Word High School - to serve and give to others as part of their personal growth & development, in addition as a graduation requirement. As a young adult we commit for our young ladies to have a variety of neat experiences as they serve others within our San Antonio community by providing two service opportunities each month.

Some volunteering sites have been: Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, Light the Way workdays, Ronald McDonald House, Haven for Hope, Boys and Girls club, and Retirement Centers just to name a few.

  • Weekends: In addition to these larger activities we also offer students the opportunity to take care of day-to-day matters or enjoy smaller, frequent trips to the mall, movie theaters, Wal-Mart/Target, Chinese/Korean/Hispanic markets and other stores. On a monthly basis we rotate these weekend trips so our residents have to plan their shopping in advance.

Being a member of the residential community provides many opportunities to have fun, learn, and serve others. Some activities are paid for by the school while other optional activities are paid by the resident. We always encourage our residents to attend school sponsored dances, athletics competitions, and other events.
    • Note: Transportation is provided in a fleet of vans, shuttle buses or our branded UIW school charter buses depending on the total counts of residents participating.
  • Local Activities: often include - bowling, attending the rodeo, Fiesta events, local shopping at La Cantera, North Star Mall, and the Quarry Market, movies, and museums.
