Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, to immigrant parents, Ms. Barrientos has called San Antonio home for the past 35 years. As part of her educational formation, Ms. Barrientos attended J.T. Brackenridge Elementary and Tafolla Middle School where she was a part of the multilingual program. While at Tafolla Middle School, she started learning French at the age of eleven. After having graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1999, she went on to receive two Bachelors of Arts, one in Spanish and another in French from Abilene Christian University in 2003.
While at Incarnate Word High School, Ms. Barrientos has had the opportunity to travel to France, Italy, England, Greece and Spain on multiple occasions as part of the Spring Break Trip of which she was a part of in its initial stages. Being able to see how traveling has changed her students’ perspectives has been one of her most rewarding experiences while teaching at Incarnate Word High School. This is only surpassed by the ability to see her students practice a language in its natural setting and ultimately feel a sense of accomplishment as they see their hard work being rewarded. It is Ms. Barrientos’ strong belief that a language can be learned in the classroom.
During this 2016-2017 school year, Ms. Barrientos will be teaching Spanish I, Spanish I Pre AP, Spanish III Pre AP and French III. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, reading, photography, staying on top of current events, and last but not least traveling.
