Giving Opportunities

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill

Your generosity helps ensure that Incarnate Word High School maintains its excellence in academic standards.

Philanthropic support is so important to the current and future success of Incarnate Word High School and there are many ways that you can help.  Please consider one of the following options listed below.

The Shamrock Fund

The Shamrock Fund is comprised of voluntary, tax-deductible gifts from parents, alumnae, grandparents, trustees, faculty, and friends of Incarnate Word High School. Tuition covers only a portion of the cost of educating each Incarnate Word student, leaving a per-student deficit of almost $1,000.

Gifts to the Shamrock Fund help make up the difference between tuition and the actual cost of educating our students.

Tomorrow’s women need your support today! Incarnate Word High School graduates develop into leaders in their chosen careers and communities. They give of themselves as a living example of God’s love. Whether you give to support a daughter’s future, to sustain a school that develops leaders with faith, or to honor your educational legacy, your gift (of any size) makes a difference.

Scholarship/Endowment Funds

A gift to Incarnate Word High School’s Scholarship Fund helps provide an affordable opportunity for families that desire a Catholic education for their daughter(s) but lack the financial means to pay the full tuition.  Gifts to the Scholarship Fund are tax deductible where tuition is not.  Therefore, a donation to help families in need can benefit donors in many ways.

You may donate to the IWHS Scholarship Fund, a specific scholarship fund (see below) or establish one of your own.   Scholarships may be named to memorialize a deceased special person in your life, or to honor a living family member, classmate, friend, teacher or organization.

These are the established Scholarship Funds for Incarnate Word High School.

Angel Fund

The Angel Fund was established to help Shamrock Families with a sudden, unexpected financial need that puts them in an immediate state of financial emergency (i.e. death in the family, loss of a job). This fund was created to ensure that life’s unexpected challenges do not necessarily hinder a Shamrock’s ability to graduate or complete her current year.

Celine Cozad Scholarship Fund

Established in 2004 through the generosity of Celine Cozad for financially deserving students at IWHS.

Col. Roger J. Labat Scholarship Endowment Fund

Established in 2010 through the efforts of Ms. Mary Ann de la Garza, the Madrigals (alumnae and students) and former IWHS principal Col. Roger J. Labat.  This scholarship is designated for students in the IWHS choral program, and/or relatives of IWHS alumna.

Mary Ann de la Garza Scholarship Endowment Fund

Established in 2011 through the efforts and talents of Mary Ann de la Garza, her family and the Madrigals and Alumnae Madrigals.   This scholarship is designated for students who are relatives of an IWHS alumna.

Barbara Stern Award for Excellence in Mathematics

The Barbara Stern Award for Excellence in Mathematics was originally created by Dr. Mark Raizen and Mrs. Alicia Pais Raizen '80 to honor Mrs. Barbara Stern, a math faculty member for 29 years, who by example motivated her students to have a passionate interest in learning math. Mathematics has always been an integral part of the discovery process in both science and technology. A strong mathematics curriculum at IWHS has continually produced students who have successful careers in science, engineering, and technology. This scholarship was first awarded to members of the class of 2013 and continues today. At this time IWHS is actively raising funds to endow this scholarship.

Margaret Love Gaither Scholarship Fund

Established in 2001 for incoming freshmen at Incarnate Word High School.

There are also a variety of annual scholarship funds to which donors may contribute.

Mary Ninfa Ozuna '79 Scholarship Fund

Endowed in 2014, this scholarship fund was established in memory of a cherished Alumna, who also served a a member of our Administration and a parent. In honor of Ninfa this scholarship is designed to assist all those with the heart of a Shamrock.

Graduation Senior Scholarship Fund

Endowed in 2015 this scholarship fund is designed to help Senior, who may have it a serious financial challenge, finish their Senior Year and graduate a Shamrock!

Honor and Memorial Gifts

A  gift can be made in honor or in memory of an alumnae, parent, teacher or friend. When this type of gift is received, the Development Office sends an acknowledgment to the donor as well as the honoree or the family member(s) of the departed.

Prayer Request

Leaving a Legacy (Planned Giving)

Consider designating Incarnate Word High School as a beneficiary of your estate, 401(k), insurance policy or other planned gifts.  We would be most grateful if you included IWHS in your will or trust.  Our development office welcomes the opportunity to work with you and your advisors in planning your gift.

Alumnae Gifts

Alumnae participation has a tremendous impact over the entire development, fundraising and volunteering capacity of any school.  Alumnae support strongly influences foundation and corporation decisions to support IWHS.  The greater the support of our alumnae, the more financial support we can offer our students for scholarships and support educational enhancements throughout the school. Today’s contributions from our alumnae set an example for tomorrow’s alumnae.  Contributions to IWHS create a tradition of alumnae giving ensuring the benefit of an IWHS education for future generations of students.
