Choral and Madrigals
The Incarnate Word Choral and Madrigals, or as its more commonly acknowledged, Glee Club, have a long history of award winning achievements. This talented group of young women, ranging from freshmen to seniors, has been proud to have Ms. Mary Ann De la Garza, a Notre Dame and IWHS graduate, as their leader and instructor. The Glee Club is known for filling the halls and city with the "sound of music."
Every year, the Glee Club presents their annual Christmas concert, as well as their Spring concert. During the second semester, the Glee Club focuses on preparing for the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) District and State competitions. The Glee Club has achieved 15 years of musical excellence and has an impressive record:
- State Champions in 1997-2005 and 2011
- State Runner-Up in 2006, 2008, 2012
- 3rd place in 2010
- 4th place in 2009
In addition, the Madrigals also sing for many events at the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio civic and business organizations, nursing homes, hospitals, and even kick off the holiday season by caroling throughout the city. They have been invited by national and international groups to sing for the opening of conventions. They have performed at the White House and also at the Texas State Capitol. The Madrigals also are frequently invited to sing liturgical services for the Archdiocese of San Antonio and for the Sisters of Charity at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.
The Glee Club and Madrigals are proud to represent IWHS and they share the mission for the Sisters of Charity by the service they do for the IWHS and San Antonio community.
|In 2008 the Madrigals traveled to Washington, D.C. to perform at the White House.|
