Virtual Student Application Process

Dear Future Shamrock,

Thank you for considering Incarnate Word Virtual High School (IWVHS)!  As a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVIs), IWVHS strives to spread the educational vision of the Sisters to all. Attending IWVHS is much more than an opportunity to obtain your high school diploma. IWVHS, as an extension of the CCVI ministries, IWVHS invites young women to become women who are led by faith to live into their potential.  When you join the Shamrock Sisterhood, you are joining a group of women who have been grounded in and reflect a passion for service leadership, compassion, equity, and justice since 1881. The young women who attend IWVHS are also part of this vibrant legacy. 
If you meet any of the following criteria, then IWVHS might be the right high school for you:
  • You live 50 miles or further from San Antonio
  • You have a parent who is required to move frequently for their job
  • You have a health condition that makes attending a traditional school harder
  • You lack access to a local Catholic high school 
  • You are pursuing the arts or athletics and require a more flexible school schedule to accommodate training and travel
  • You are more successful in a virtual setting

  • Step 1: Submit an Application

    Create an account online and fill out the application. To apply for Incarnate Word Virtual High School, choose "Virtual" for virtual candidate with the grade level your child is entering for the upcoming school year.

    Please note that Firefox and Google Chrome work best for the online application.

  • Step 2: Submit Your Transcripts

    We will need official copies of your transcripts.
    • For incoming 9th graders we require transcripts from 6th through 8th grade.
    • For transfer students, we require full high school transcripts.

  • Step 3: Submit Birth Certificate

    A copy of your Birth Certificate is required.

  • Step 4: Submit Your Immunization Record

    In compliance with the Texas Department of Health Services, students are asked to submit a complete vaccination record, including proof of the meningitis vaccination. 

  • Step 5: Submit Letters of Recommendation

    To assist us in evaluating each student’s potential for success, we require a minimum of two recommendations for the student to include Mathematics and English teachers. Please use the Confidential Recommendation form.

  • Step 6: Submit Copies of Standardized Test Scores

    If you have taken any standardized tests, please submit a copy of your results as part of your application process.  Please note that the High School Placement Test is NOT required for virtual campus applicants.

  • Step 7: Schedule An Interview

    Schedule your interview with members of our team. We can't wait to meet you!

  • Step 8: Visit IWHS (Optional)

    While not required, we encourage all students to schedule a visit to Incarnate Word during one of our Shadow Dates, Open Houses or schedule a private tour.

  • Who is IWVHS designed to serve?

    IWVHS is a learning environment for girls who:
    • You live 50 miles or further from San Antonio
    • You have a parent who is required to move frequently for their job

  • Will IWVHS have access to activities and events on campus?

    YES! We encourage our IWVHS Shamrocks to participate in campus activities to the extent that they are interested and able. Clubs, Student Council, Peer Ministry, Ambassadors, Liturgies, dances, service trips, etc., are all opportunities for IWVHS students to interact with our campus community.

  • Do virtual students wear a uniform?

  • What if we want to move our daughter to in-person learning?

    We want every Shamrock to fulfil her potential as a learner. For that reason, if she is not meeting with success on the virtual campus, a return to in-person learning might be advised. Keeping in mind that stability and consistency are crucial for learning success, a commitment to IWVHS is for a full semester. If a transfer to in person learning is desired by you and/or advised by your daughter’s teacher(s) or guidance counselor, that transfer will take place at the start of the next semester.

  • What kind of support services will be available to the IWVHS students?

    IWVHS students will have full access to our learning intervention specialist, our ELL support, as well as Guidance and College Counseling. IWVHS students are full participants in the Incarnate Word learning community, just not constrained by walls, time, or place.

  • Will my daughter need special equipment to participate in IWVHS?

    IWVHS follows the same technical requirements as IWHS, which is a BYOD campus. Technical requirements can be located on our website: Library and Technology Services
