Dr. Anna Downey

Dr. Anna Downey was named Principal and CEO of Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) in May of 2019. Her areas of responsibility include management of students, faculty, staff, curriculum, extra-curricular activities, all facilities, and overall institutional advancement at IWHS.

Downey is a graduate of the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned her Master of Education at Jones International University and a Doctor of Education at Union Institute & University. Downey spent 22 years as an administrator and teacher at the all-girls Seton High School and four years teaching at Roger Bacon High School, both in Cincinnati. The Superintendent of Catholic Schools in Cincinnati describes her as “innovative” and “passionate about women’s Catholic education.”

In 2018, the University of Cincinnati Economics Center recognized Downey as high school Educator of the Year out of a cohort of 165 teachers from parochial and public schools who participated in their program. In 2015, Downey presented at the NCEA National Convention in Orlando, Florida. The title of her presentation was Senior Project: A Capstone Experience for College and Career Readiness. In addition, her extensive expertise and experience includes starting and implementing a Title 1 program, developing early college credit opportunities in high school, and creating and developing a 21st century academic vision involving the technology of tomorrow.

Downey and her husband Dale have two children, McKenzie and Lucas, who are both graduates of Catholic high schools. In her down time, she enjoys nature while boating, gardening, hiking, fishing, traveling, and practicing mindfulness. She is also an animal lover and has two dogs.
