Welcome to the Modular Schedule! Ready to see what a typical day will look like for you? Let’s dive in using the schedule above!

First things first, you’ll notice one schedule is plain white, and the other is bursting with color. At IWHS, we like to keep things lively—so you’ll color-code your classes to make the schedule easier to read (and a lot more fun!). Let’s check out the color-coded version.

First, note that your schedule is split into two weeks: M-Week and A-Week. This two-week cycle repeats itself throughout the year. Let’s focus on what your Monday-M will look like.

On Monday “M”, you have six classes: World Geography, Spanish 1, Art: Drawing, Algebra 1, Biology, and Religious Studies. You’ve color-coded each class so you know when you have class and when you have open mods. The blank mods represent your open mods. Open mods are an extension of the classroom, giving you the flexibility to schedule meetings with teachers for extra help, do library research, or work on assignments between classes.

On the far left, you’ll see the times when the mods begin and end. In the morning on Monday-M, you’ll start bright and early with World Geography during mods one and two, from 8:15 am to 8:50 am. After mod two, you’ll head straight over to Spanish, then to art class. After Art class, you’ll have two open mods during mods seven and eight. During these open mods, this is your chance to really shine, where you can tackle projects, catch up on assignments, or maybe chat with a teacher from an earlier class.

Next, you’re off to Algebra 1, crunching numbers before lunch rolls around during mod eleven. After lunch, you get an open mod just before Biology. Perfect timing to hit the books for that upcoming Biology test or to get ahead on homework. Once you’ve aced Biology, another open mod pops up, giving you a chance to map out your schedule for tomorrow. Then it’s off to your final class of the day, Religious Studies. After that, you’ll head to advisory to catch the afternoon announcements, and then your day is done!
You might have practice or a club meeting after school, but with the mod schedule, you’ve got most of your homework squared away. That means more time for the fun stuff and less late-night cramming.

Thanks for taking this adventure through the modular schedule with us! Until next time, Shamrocks!

The Mod Schedule Explained

Since 1969, Incarnate Word High School has offered a distinctive modular master schedule that supports our rigorous college preparatory curriculum. This innovative framework not only facilitates high-quality instruction but also encourages student-directed learning, fostering critical life skills. Our alumnae frequently express their profound gratitude for the values cultivated through this system—self-discipline, time management, goal setting, and independence—skills essential for success in higher education and beyond.

The modular schedule is structured into seventeen 20-minute modules each day, closely resembling a collegiate schedule. This design affords students the flexibility to allocate their "open mod" time to activities such as library research, meetings with faculty for additional guidance, testing, and laboratory work between scheduled classes. Students adapt swiftly to this schedule, appreciating the opportunities for meaningful faculty interaction and dedicated academic time within the school day.
